They say when one door closes another opens. Since last August, I feel like I’ve been in a season with the pages in this chapter of life moving at an oddly swift / slow pace all at the same time. The truth is, I was miserable at my last position, but it was something that I worked so hard to build and the people on my team meant the world to me.
While that chapter has been closing for almost a year, I still find myself wondering what exactly is in the story as the pages continue to turn. Yesterday, I met with a lovely new friend and coach who encouraged me to reach outside of my current circle and talk to people who are doing the work that I want to do.
That conversation really did help. It was a great reminder that your story is just that …YOURS. And, while I’ve been so focused on ensuring I continue to go after the traditional positions I have had in the past …I left that conversation truly wondering why I should just focus on that? I love my work as a Leader in Tech and I believe my voice and opinions are important in that field …but, what if that now looks a little untraditional than in the past?
If you are at a crossroads, kicking off your career or mid-way through and seeking a change – I encourage you to have a conversation with someone outside of your current circle. They probably won’t have all of the answers, but I bet they would benefit from the experience as much as you do.
And, speaking of chapters, we are about to be empty nesters. I’m not sure how this part of my life went so fast, but I’ve been a mom more of my life than not. And, while I’ll always be a mom first and foremost, it’s going be a different life alone with Hubsters.
